  CBN wheel grinding has significant advantages such as high efficiency, high precision, and low cost, and is an inevitable trend for the development of camshaft grinding technology. Based on the results of years of experimental research and related technical documents, the article points out the major constraints in the process of domestically marketing CBN grinding technology for camshafts and puts forward positive suggestions for the wide adoption of camshaft machining. CBN grinding technology improves the overall processing technology of the engine.

  As one of the key parts of the engine, the camshaft has a direct impact on the engine's dynamic characteristics. At the same time, the camshaft is a non-circular grinding workpiece. The machining allowance is large and the material is difficult to grind. Both the cutting accuracy and the production efficiency are very high and the processing is relatively difficult. Therefore, the grinding technology of the camshaft has always been the focus of attention in the industry. How to improve the grinding efficiency and machining quality is an urgent problem to be solved in the camshaft grinding. The following factors must be considered:

  ● The characteristics of the machine tool;

  ● The method of grinding and forming the cam profile;

  ● Grinding wheel performance and coolant;

  ● Grinding process, including dressing tools and dressing processes.

  Development Status of Camshaft Grinding Technology at Home and Abroad

  At present, most camshaft production lines in domestic car OEMs and manufacturers specializing in camshafts have introduced CBN grinding technology, but there are still many cams for diesel trucks, diesel engines and motorcycle engines that still use traditional corundum grinding wheels for simulation. Shaped grinding process. The coarse grinding process uses domestic medium and low-speed grinding machines (less than 35m/s). Some grinding mills use imported grinding machines, but the use speeds are all below 60m/s. The dressing tools are mostly single-point diamond pens, imported grinding machines and a few domestic ones. The grinding machine is finished with diamond rollers. The problems brought by this traditional technology to the grinding of the camshaft are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

  ● The cam profile has low accuracy and it is difficult to improve

  The use of mold grinding, cam contour shape error can only be controlled within the ± 0.03mm range, and the whole CNC without mold grinding can be controlled within ± 0.01mm. In addition, when the ordinary abrasive wheel is used, the outer diameter variation range is large (80 mm to 100 mm), and the cam profile changes by 0.007 mm every time the diameter of the grinding wheel changes by 1 mm, and it is difficult to further improve the accuracy of the cam profile.

  ● The cam surface is prone to burns, cracks, and other defects, making it difficult to increase production efficiency

  Due to the large grinding margin of the cam and the difficult grinding of the material, the performance of the ordinary abrasive grinding wheel is difficult to adapt, and both the grinding quality and the production efficiency often cannot be taken into account.

  ● The overall economic efficiency is not high

  Ordinary abrasive grinding wheels have low durability and long service life, and need to be frequently repaired or replaced. As a result, the wear of the dressing tools is accelerated, and the auxiliary time and labor intensity increase, which not only affects the production efficiency but also increases the production cost. In addition, the large amount of grinding wheel, the quality of its fluctuations also affect the stability of the grinding process, but also due to the production of a large number of grinding residues, increased the amount of grinding fluid filtration, causing a certain degree of pollution to the environment.
